We are in full swing of school by now. Routines are established. Beginning-of-year academic assessments have been administered, and teachers are now teaching away. You can expect your students to be challenged academically and behaviorally more than ever before. This is going to be a fantastic school year.

With that being said, please understand that your role in support of the efforts we make at school is a VITAL part of your students' success. Make sure you are subscribing to ParentSquare and are staying up-to-date on all communication.

School starts each day at 7:55 a.m. and dismisses at 2:55 p.m. Students may NOT be dropped off or exit cars until 7:30 a.m. We have no adults to supervise students until promptly at 7:30 a.m.

If your child walks to school, they must time it so they DO NOT arrive before 7:30 a.m.

At dismissal, we do not allow parents to walk up and pick up kiddos. If you have an extenuating circumstance that prevents you from driving through the car line, you will have a designated waiting area, and we will dismiss your child AFTER ALL cars have come through the pickup line.

The literacy requirements for 3rd-grade students are a HUGE component of their academic success. The cut score for this year has been raised to 454 on the reading portion of the ACAP Assessment. Families, please add a 15-minute focus on literacy each day at home. See below for some suggestions of things you can do with your child at home.

Regular and consistent school attendance is VITAL to your child's success. Please make every effort to have your student at school EVERY single day. We have provided you with important dates below so you can plan your vacations and trips accordingly.

Also, when making doctor's appointments, please try to avoid your child missing school as much as possible.

SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH. Students are working on an attendance contest with Mrs. Sullivan, so PLEASE make attendance a priority for your children.

Students with PERFECT ATTENDANCE during September will earn a trip to see the UNA Lions Basketball team play in November.

Please review the traffic flow maps below to see how your drop-off and pickup routines will flow. ALL students are dropped off in the morning in the main front loop of the school. At dismissal, we will have 3rd and 4th graders dismissed from the main loop, while 5th and 6th graders are dismissed from the river side of campus. IF you have students who are siblings, the older students (5th and 6th grade) will report to the younger students' (3rd and 4th grade) classrooms and dismiss with them in the main loop of the front of the school.

Parents should have received a letter from LINQ Connect system. This will be the NEW platform for you to view menus, add money to lunch accounts for students to purchase extras after they eat, view what your child is purchasing, with controls that can be set by the parents on daily allowances for extras, and much more.

It is our policy that no students will be checked out after 2:30 p.m. We dismiss at 2:55 and will get students out to the cars as quickly as possible.

If you drive any part of the way to bring your children to school, we REALLY need you to bring them through the car line. Also, no students may be dropped off on the back side of the school. Our number one priority is the safety of ALL students and we can't supervise them if we don't know they are on campus.

It is very important that we always have your most up-to-date contact information on file in the main office. If you have a cell phone number change, an address change, or an email address change, please contact Ms. Winborn to get that information updated.

We are accepting nominations for the Shoals Teacher of the Month program for Fall 2026 and would appreciate your help sharing this opportunity with your school community.

This program recognizes outstanding educators across Colbert and Lauderdale Counties. Nominations may be submitted by students, parents, fellow staff members, or community members.

From August through December, two teachers will be recognized each month: one from a local elementary school and one from a local middle or high school. Each recipient will be celebrated with gifts and goodies provided by our generous sponsors, Northwest Shoals Community College and The Social Hair & Beauty. 

This form will be sent home each week of home football games so your students can join in on the Sheffield Spirit Fun.

Be on the lookout for this flyer to come home with your 3rd- and 4th-grade student. Please complete this and return NO later than Friday, September 4, if you have grandparents planning to come eat with your child.
