Our Mission

Our Mission

Sheffield City Schools strives to create a culture of collaboration by engaging families, students, staff and community stakeholders in strategically addressing the barriers to student success.

Mental Health is Important

We recognize that our mental health is a huge component of our health. Here at Sheffield City Schools, we recognize the importance of focusing on the whole child. We want our students and families to be aware that we are here to help them navigate and manage their feelings. We have services in place to assist our students who may be overwhelmed by anxiety, sadness, and anger as they may interfere with how a student manages the daily demands of school and home life. This could lead to mental health concerns and we want you to know you are not alone and we are here to support you.

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) recognizes efforts to improve student wellness and school culture/climate-related initiatives and programs. Sheffield City Schools was recently awarded a grant for a pilot program between the Department of Mental Health and the Alabama State Department of Education. Through the grant, Sheffield City Schools was able to appoint a Mental Health Coordinator. The Mental Health Coordinator will help assess students' needs, link students and families to service, and promote collaboration within our school system and community.

This school year we have also welcomed UNA Social Work Interns who are working closely with our mental health coordinator and school counselors. The collaboration has allowed us to conduct home visits, deliver meals to families in quarantine, complete report card conferencing with our 3rd, 6th, and 9th graders and increase our efforts to link students to mental health supports and community resources.
