Pervis Key Named Coach of the Year

Varsity Boys Head Basketball Coach, Pervis Key, was recognized as the TimesDaily’s Class 1A-3A Coach of the Year. Coach Key led his players to have a successful season ending with an overall winning record of 15 wins and 9 losses. After defeating Mars Hill Bible School to win the 2A Area 16 Championship, the Bulldogs moved on to play Whitesburg Christian Academy to continue on in playoffs. After the win against Whitesburg, the Bulldogs continued on to play at Red Bay High School where they outperformed the Tigers with a 63-44 victory. Coach Key, along with his assistant coaches (Charles Smith, LeJuan Anderson, and Trenton Roden), led the team to advance to play at Wallace State where the season sadly came to an end. Implementing the vital principles that Key taught, the Varsity Boys Team displayed the utmost character as they kept composure in difficult situations, hustled to improve individually and as a team, and made their school system and city extremely proud. Junior starter, Devin Doss, was also recognized as 1A-3A All-Area Boys Basketball First Team. Senior, Jaylen Jones, and sophomore, Jatavian Carroll, were also recognized as Honorable Mentions.
