Resource Special Education Teacher
My name is Laurie Tant. I hold a BSEd in Special Education from the University of North Alabama. I started my career in Gadsden, Alabama where I worked at Adams Elementary in the Gadsden City School District. I moved back to my hometown of Florence, Alabama in 2003 and continued my teaching career with Florence City Schools. In the Fall of 2007 I began teaching with Sheffield City Schools as the Resource Teacher. I am now starting my 11th year here at Sheffield with a total of 17 years in Special Education. I love working with the students, families, and staff in Sheffield, Alabama. I am very proud to be a Bulldog and a part of the Sheffield City School family! Teaching is a calling for me, not simply a job. I want to make a difference for families with exceptional children.
I believe that EVERY child has the desire, ability, and capability to learn. Children don't all learn the same way, at the same pace, retain the same things, or end up at the same destination. However, they all have an innate desire to learn and grow. I feel my primary responsibility is to help them figure out how they best learn and then positively and consistently support them in a safe environment as they transition into adults. My focus is always on their future. My goal is to diligently help each student reach their full potential and gain as much independence as they are able to manage.
I am married to Chris Tant and we live in Florence with our three children Cade, Thomas, and Anne-Marie.
