Sheffield I-Learning in the News

Times Daily Interview with Sheffield Students

I-Learning Day was a great event at Sheffield City Schools on October 11. Faculty professional development included Deputy Superintendent Dr. Phillip Cleveland and nationally renowned author Baruti Kafele who spoke on "Closing the Attitude Gap." Kafele challenged teachers to be BAM! teachers. Superintendent Keith Lankford shared that ACT testing results showed student growth at every grade level and that students met or significantly exceeded the growth percentiles in 2015-16. Students were out of school for the day, but had an important assignment. Teachers had worked diligently to prepare the students for a job experience. Businesses in the Shoals were filled with Sheffield students who were exploring careers for the future. While other districts have implemented independent technology learning days, Lankford said he felt a career focus would have long lasting benefits for the students in college and career preparation.
