STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and is making a lot of buzz in education. Why? Research tells us that STEM occupations are growing at 17% while other occupations are growing at 9.8%. STEM degrees also provide for higher income jobs. As a nation, STEM careers help us win the future by growing our economy and allowing us to compete in a global and knowledge-based society. To succeed in this new technology-based world, students need to develop their STEM capabilities, to become critical thinkers, and to be inspired as innovators for the next generation. Ask Sheffield students about rocket launches in Pre-K, experiments in their classrooms, the STEM lab at SHS, or the new Rocket Club. We want our students to be a part of a bright future!
