January is Gifted Education Celebration Month

Happy Gifted Education Month, 2017!

I am so excited the 6th Annual Gifted Education Month has arrived!  Governor Bentley signed a Proclamation declaring January as Gifted Education Month in Alabama!   The theme for Gifted Education Month this year is

Gifted From All Angles

Throughout the month of January, we will spotlight our Gifted Program and  a few accomplishments achieved by our gifted students. We have invited several state and local legislatures and government officials to visit our school system during the month of January; not just to remind them of the importance of gifted education, but to also share with them all the great things happening in SHEFFIELD CITY SCHOOLS(hoping to accomplish many things with one visit??)  We will also send you several resources you may use in your classroom to challenge and engage gifted and advance learners!

Below are just a few stats about our current gifted student population.

  • 83- Total Identified Gifted Students (3rd - 12th grade)
  • 43- Total students receiving indirect services (9th-12th)
  • 40- Total students receiving direct services (3rd-8th)
  • ALL 2nd graders are currently being screened for gifted eligibility

Have a great day.
