- K.I.N.D. (Kids Inspirecd to do Nice Deeds) Reading Resources: There is a "K.I.N.D." shelf at each library with books selected to promote character, service, leadership, etc. Inside the cover of these fiction books, are ideas to help bring the lessons "to life" for students. Service-learning allows students to take what they learn in the classroom and see how it "fits" into the real world. The goal is to make learning relevant, especially for struggling students. Based on time restraints, the activities vary - teachers can simple read the book for a class discussion do a creative writing activity, or plan a project - whatever fits in with classroom activities.
- Learning to Lead Clubs: These clubs target specific students in order to instill leadership skills. Sponsors of these groups provide opportunities for the students to become community leaders through service activities, character lessons, and decision making opportunities. Club Sponsors: Cheryl Newton & Linda Vaughn (Threadgill Primary); and Pam Collier & Emily Mize (L.E. Willson Elementary).
- Mini-grants: Teachers have the opportunity to request resources in order to incorporate Service-Learning into a lesson plan. The mini-grant applications address the service learning components of identifying a need related to a learning objective, reflecting on the project, and celebrating success.
