Youth Tobacco Prevention

Sheffield City Schools was awarded a Youth Tobacco Prevention Grant in 2011. The program raised awareness and educated the community on the dangers of secondhand smoke and the importance of protecting Alabama's youth from tobacco use. Three key components of the program included:

LifeSkills Training for 6th grade students 
Botvins LifeSkills Training is a research-validated substance abuse prevention program proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence by targeting the major social and psychological factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors. N-O-T (Not on Tobacco) classes for secondary students
N-O-T is the American Lung Associations voluntary teen smoking cessation program designed for high school students who are regular smokers that are likely addicted to nicotine. For more information: http://www.notontobacco.com/

YEP (Youth Empowerment Program) for secondary students
High school youth share leadership as they implement tobacco prevention projects and educate the community on the risks of tobacco use. Participating students gain valuable experience in public activism.
