Sheffield City Schools' extended day program serves Prek - 12 students. The pre-k - 6th grade program is open from 3:00 - 5:30 with a cost of $5.00 per day. Students receive homework help and academic enrichment from certified teachers, exposure to emerging technology, and the opportunity to learn new skills. Qualified professionals have provided lessons for sign language, karate, guitar, dance, art, and drama. Students have also visited many exciting locations such as McWane Science Center, Birmingham Zoo, Children's Museum, W.C. Handy Home, and a ride on the Pickwick Belle.

Students in grades 7-8 are offered "mini-sessions" of interest four days per week from 3:00 - 4:30. 

Students in grades 9-12, who have received a failing grade in a core academic subject, have the opportunity to "recover" this grade, preventing them from falling behind their peers.
