Mission: The mission of Threadgill Primary School's Comprehensive School Counseling and Guidance Program is to provide an environment that nutures the mental well-being of each child and fosters academic, personal/social, and career development.

Program Goals for 2017-2018:

By June 2018 average daily attendance will increase from 94.5% to 96.5% for all students at Threadgill Primary School.

By June 2018 the percentage of time absent for white males will decrease from 6.63% to 4.63%.

Personal Goal: My goal is to see at least 20 students a week in individual and/or small group counseling sessions (in addition to providing classroom guidance lessons to all students weekly) for each full week that we are in school to promote the well-being of our students.

All children at Threadgill have access to the counseling program provided by the school counselor. The Threadgill Primary School Counseling and Guidance Plan is based on the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Model. Each week every class in the school attends a guidance lesson taught by the school counselor. These lessons focus on elements from the three domains set forth by ASCA: academic, career, personal social. Topics  include friendship, manners, anti-bullying, hygiene, drug abuse prevention, career awareness, study skills, behavior, etc.

Throughout the year, students also have the opportunity to participate in small group or individual counseling sessions with the counselor. Small groups meet regularly and are topical in nature. Past small groups have focused on students dealing with divorce, grief, self-esteem, anger management, and friendship. Individual counseling occurs as needed and is specifically tailored to the student's need. Referral forms for both small group and individual counseling can be found outside the counseling room.

  • Riverbend Center for Mental Health provides an In-School Therapist who is on our campus one day a week to see students who qualify for these services.
  • The Healing Place provides small group counseling once a month for students coping with grief.
  • Safe-place provides good-touch bad-touch lessons to our students annually and meets the requirements set forth in Erin's Law.
